RFID Spacers

RFID ferrite sheet spacers

If RFID tags are used to mark metal objects, there is a well-known problem with reading them. The problem is especially manifested with LF and HF RFID tags. In this case, the problem of reading the tag from the metal surface can be solved in two ways:

  1. Using on-metal RFID tags
This solution is usually used when the card does not require readable information because such tags are not intended for printing
  2. Using special pads (spacers)
Spacers are usually used for RFID labels on a roll, that in the process of writing, pass through the RFID printer-encoder and must be thin and flexible. After creating the label, it is glued to the RFID spacer and together with it to the metal surface.

Specification

The basis of using a pad is the idea of moving the RFID sticker away from the metal surface, which increases the reading range between the sticker and the metal, and thus practically places a layer that prevents the absorption of RF waves by the metal.

There are three types of RFID Spacers:

Foam
PVC
Ferrite

The success ratio of the spacer is given by the ratio FERRIT: PVC: FOAM = 6: 2: 1, which practically means that a 1mm thick ferrite spacer will give the same improvement as a 3mm thick PVC and a 6mm thick foam spacer.

Depending on the metal on which the RFID tag is placed as well as the frequency used, the appropriate pad should be selected, and we suggest that you contact us for a consultation and advice on which type of pad to choose.
